We here on the Student scholarship committee are so excited to welcome 9 students this year thanks to *your* donations!
Over the next few weeks we would like to introduce you to some of the students.
As someone currently located in Canada I was psyched to see another Canadian coming to the event, the more the merrier!
My name is Muna and I’m from Toronto, Canada
Q: If people want to find you online where should they look?
You can find me on twitter [@moonsdotcom]
Q: Is this your first time going to a hacking or Information Security event?
I go to a lot of local meetups so this isn’t going to be my first Hacking / Infosec event but it will be my first Infosec conference.
Q: What are you most looking forward to at Diana Initiative? What about in Las Vegas?
I’m most looking forward to the CTF and the soldering Village. I have never soldered before so I am interested in potentially learning a new skill. I am also super excited to participate in the CTF because I find them fun. I have only competed in a couple of CTFs so far but I am looking to compete in more in the future.
I’m also looking forward to participating in Hacker Summer Camp. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would get to attend so I am feeling very grateful for getting this opportunity. I wanted to thank the great people at the Diana Initiative as well as everyone who donated to the Diana Initiative scholarship fund for giving me this opportunity.
Q: What is the thing you are most hoping to go home with, a memory, an experience, a new skill, knowledge around a specific topic?
I am hoping to make meaningful connections and friendships with people who are into the same things as me. I am also looking for some guidance in the big world of infosec .
Q: What are you studying in school? How do you like it?
I’m going into my third year of college studying Information Security and I love what I study. I enjoy the challenge that it gives me (even though it’s very stressful at times). Prior to going to school for Information Security, I studied Mental Health studies. Although I loved my mental health major, I did not feel the same challenge that I do now studying Information Security.
Q: What is your biggest topic of interests in infosec?
My current interests include malware analysis and threat hunting. Since I’m still a student there is still a lot that I don’t know but so far, these 2 subjects have stuck with me throughout my studies.
Q: What is your dream job?
I don’t have a specific dream job in mind but I want to find a job where I can educate others on ways that they can help protect themselves as well as their businesses. Education is also very important to me so a job which allows me to continue to educate myself and further better myself would be ideal. I would also love a job with a cool title.
Q: What sparked your interest in infosec?
Since childhood, I have been a paranoid person. My feelings were finally vindicated when the Snowden leak happened. The information from this leak lead me down a YouTube rabbit hole that ended on a Defcon talk. I don’t remember the specific talk but I remember the term Infosec being thrown around. That was when I decided I would look into this “infosec” stuff. I have been hooked ever since.
Best of luck to Muna in the CTF, if you know you want to participate and haven’t finished off your team perhaps now is the time to buddy up!
